I chose nursing because I have spent years working in healthcare and have seen firsthand how compassionate, knowledgeable care can truly change a person’s experience during some of the most vulnerable moments of their life. I currently work in a long term care facility. My experience has motivated me to push myself beyond my comfort zone and continue growing professionally so I can make a meaningful difference in patient care. As a nurse, I want to advocate for my patients, provide high-quality, empathetic care, and be someone who not only treats illness but also supports and empowers individuals and families throughout their healthcare journey.
As an alumnus of the Practical Nursing Program at Hondros College of Nursing, I decided to continue on to the Associate Degree in Nursing Program. I was pleased with the course offerings and how they fit in my everyday life balance of working and being a mother. I’ve learned that time management is the number one tool that gets you through school. You have to make time to work, be a parent, all while keeping up on your studies. You get creative, for me 2:00 AM alarms labeled “get up and study” are my go-to!
Starting nursing school is a big decision. It’s never the “right” time to go back to school, you just have to do it. Thinking about it will only further delay your goals. You’ll be surprised at how life works itself out and before you know it, you’ll be reaching your goals one term at a time!
