Life for me has never been traditional. I had children young, married before my career, and had to go back to get my high school diploma when I was 27. After years of soul searching, I kept not loving what I was doing. I was an aide for several years and then I became a CPR instructor. From there, I went to get my advanced manicurist license in hopes of opening a nail spa, and I was successful! However, without a strong team, it was harder than I thought. I was in business for 21 years while being separated from my husband and 5 children. I began to fall into a depression because I was unsure if I had made the right decision. So, I shut down my shop and went back to school. I wanted my children to see and know that with hard work and dedication, you can do anything! Nursing school was always in the plan, but I ran from it. Thankfully it came back full circle.
I researched several schools, but Hondros College of Nursing was the best match for me. I liked that they offered flexible schedules and an opportunity for growth through their ADN program.
To those considering nursing don’t give up. There is never a right time, so take a leap of faith and do it! It will change your life, as it has changed mine. Be sure to connect with like-minded people in your cohort and get to work.
