My decision to pursue a career in nursing was deeply rooted in my experience in the military, where I served as a Special Operations Combat Medic/Paramedic. The military provided me with rigorous training and the opportunity to earn my LPN, which laid a strong foundation for my career in healthcare. The challenges and responsibilities I faced during my service cultivated a deep sense of duty and a commitment to helping others, which naturally extended into the field of nursing.
After retiring from the military, I stepped away from healthcare to pursue a degree in software engineering. However, witnessing the critical need for healthcare professionals during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic reignited my passion for the field and compelled me to return to nursing. The urgency of the situation reminded me that skilled and compassionate care can have a profound impact on individuals and communities. The decision to continue my nursing education and advance my career was a natural progression.
Among all the nursing programs I researched, Hondros College of Nursing stood out due to its streamlined pathway toward becoming a registered nurse. The efficient nature of this program allows me to make significant progress toward my professional objectives without unnecessary delays. Its focus on practical, hands-on experience provides the perfect balance between rigorous academic preparation and the ability to transition quickly from LPN into the nursing field. Attending Hondros was a strategic decision to efficiently advance and enhance my nursing career.
If I were to give advice to someone considering a career in nursing, I would emphasize a few key points:
- Passion and Commitment: Nursing is not just a job; it's a calling. It requires a deep passion for helping others and a commitment to providing the best care possible, even in challenging situations. Make sure you're entering the field because you truly care about making a difference in people's lives.

Stay curious and always seek opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills, whether through formal education or hands-on experience.
- Strong Support System: Surround yourself with a strong support system, both professionally and personally. Nursing can be demanding, so having mentors, colleagues, and loved ones who understand and support you will be invaluable as you navigate your career.
- Self-Care: While caring for others is the essence of nursing, it's equally important to take care of yourself. Prioritize self-care to prevent burnout.
